The excursion

The mini cruise departs from Porto Santo Stefano aboard the motorboat Revenge, a day at sea in the Tuscan Archipelago featuring navigation, onshore stops, and free time on the islands of Giannutri and Isola del Giglio. The route reaches Giannutri after about 50 minutes of sailing, continues towards Isola del Giglio with a crossing of about 45 minutes, and concludes with the return to Porto Santo Stefano, expected after about 50 minutes of navigation. The first stop is dedicated to Giannutri, an island protected by a predominantly rocky coast, Mediterranean scrub, and a natural environment without inhabited centers or roads accessible by car. Here you can choose to enjoy the sea at Cala Spalmatoio, walk along the island’s trails, or participate in a guided naturalistic and historical tour. Between stops, lunch is served on board during the navigation towards Giglio. The second part of the day takes place on Isola del Giglio, arriving at Giglio Porto. The stop can be dedicated to the characteristic fishing village and the seafront, or independently organized to reach Giglio Castello, the beaches of Cannelle or Caldane. The available time requires choosing how to experience this part of the excursion: village visit, walk, swim, or beach stay.

Giannutri between nature and Roman remains

Giannutri features a jagged and rocky coast, with Cala Spalmatoio and Cala Maestra as the main landing points. Cala Spalmatoio is suitable for those who want to stay close to the sea and swim in a natural setting; Cala Maestra is a small pebble beach where remains of ancient Roman presence are also found. During the stop, you can choose a walk on the island’s trails or participate, as an extra activity, in a guided naturalistic tour or a visit to the Roman Villa. The complex preserves remains of the Roman residence, including the peristyle, the nymphaeum, and the thermal rooms. The archaeological visit is accompanied by authorized guides and must be booked separately on board.

How to enjoy the stop at Giglio

Giglio Porto is the simplest option for those who prefer to stay close to the dock: you can stroll along the seafront, observe the colorful houses of the fishing village, and swim nearby. To visit Giglio Castello, the medieval village built in the 11th century on top of a hill, you can use the local bus departing from Giglio Porto. The walls, towers, narrow alleys, and stone houses make this choice suitable for those who prefer history, architecture, and island views. Alternatively, taxis or NCC services can be considered independently. If you want to focus on the sea, the beach of Cannelle can be reached on foot from Giglio Porto with a walk of about 1.4 km. Caldane, smaller and surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, can be reached by taxi boat or on foot passing through Cannelle; these transfers are not part of the excursion and must be arranged independently. The alternatives are not cumulative during the same stop: it is advisable to choose in advance whether to dedicate the available time to the village, the seafront, or a single bathing destination.
