Discover the experience
The excursion
From Livorno you will reach Gorgona, a wild island of the Tuscan Archipelago and home to a prison, where nature and daily life intertwine. The visit takes place in small groups, with an Environmental Guide, and includes the same hiking route and duration for both available options.
The classic visit offers a guided walk to discover the historical and natural aspects of the island and the life of the island-farm; it does not include contact with inmates. The visit with the Social Project, carried out in collaboration with the Penitentiary Administration, takes place with a local inmate guide, while the Environmental Guide narrates the island's nature and moderates the dialogue. The project is activated upon reaching the minimum number of participants; otherwise, the classic visit is conducted.
The indicative program includes meeting and boarding at the Port of Livorno, at Berth 56 – Calata Carrara, at 7:45 AM and departure at 8:15 AM. After arrival and entry formalities, an easy trek of about 6 km along white roads between the north and west coast is planned. After a stop in the holm oak woods for a packed lunch, the tour continues towards the Old Tower and the small harbor. Swimming is only possible if authorized daily by the Penitentiary Administration. Return to Livorno is scheduled around 7:30 PM; from October 2026 different times are indicated. Times may vary depending on the season.
Included are the round-trip sea transfer, panoramic navigation, onboard assistance, and the guided experience according to authorized modalities. Lunch is not included. On the island, it is not allowed to leave the group; cell phones, cameras, and video cameras cannot be brought ashore and are collected before landing.
