The excursion
Giannutri is an island without roads or cars, to be explored on foot among Mediterranean nature, Roman remains, and sea views. The excursion starts from Porto Santo Stefano: the navigation to the island lasts about one hour. The experience has an indicated duration of 7 hours and includes guided tours with the environmental guides of the Tuscan Archipelago Park.
The first stop is Villa Domizia, a 1st-century AD Roman residence immersed in greenery, where you can observe the remains of baths, nymphaea, and residential structures. Not far away is the Labyrinth Mosaic, characterized by an intricate geometric design. The visits allow you to learn about the island's historical heritage accompanied by the guides.
At the end of the visits, you can enjoy free time among the main beaches, Cala Maestra and Cala Spalmatoio, or walk the Mediterranean scrub trails. The beaches are mainly rocky or pebbly; for those who wish to walk, a path leads to the Capo Rosso Lighthouse. The island also has bars and restaurants.
The meeting with the guides is scheduled at the port of Porto Santo Stefano, at the boarding point of the Motorboat Costa D’Argento. The indicated departure is at 10:00; the return from Giannutri is scheduled in the afternoon, and the return navigation lasts about one hour. The motorboat can occasionally be replaced by another vessel; in such cases, passengers are notified. About 24 hours before departure, you will receive an SMS with details, recommended parking, and meeting points. Movement on the island takes place exclusively on foot.
